BLOOMINGTON – Central Catholic in Bloomington is ranked as the most challenging high school in central Illinois and among the most challenging in the country according to a report in the Washington Post.

The paper ranks schools based of the ratio of graduating seniors and the number of advanced placement exams they took, which includes International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests.

Central Catholic’s score was 2.042 and they are ranked 1,339th nationally out of 22,000 high schools, placing it among the top seven percent of high school nationwide. The school is the only one south of the Chicago suburbs in Illinois’ Top 60.

CCHS has for the last two years achieved the Illinois High School Association Team Academic Award for all of its athletic teams. This award is given to teams who average at least a 3.0 grade point average during their season of play.
