PONTIAC – The Livingston County Ag Fair and 4-H Show begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday, packed with daily activities.

Alcha Corban, 4-H Youth Development Coordinator for the University of Illinois Extension office, described how the day will go for the 4-H participants and their families.

“Wednesday is a big judging day for us. We’re running around crazy, but it’s a lot of fun for us,” Corbin said. “Later that evening, we’re going to be doing Ag Olympics, which we didn’t have last year and we were so sad, but we’re excited it’s coming back. We have our stations set up and we’ve got the T-shirts ordered, so you’re going to see all these kids running around that evening, so we really encourage people to come out and see what’s going on and cheer the kids on as they compete in the Ag Olympics.”

Also happening Wednesday will be the crowning of the king and queen at 7 p.m. before the Ag Olympics and a dance with a DJ at the recreation shelter at 8:30.

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
