PONTIAC – The City of Pontiac battles mosquitoes as a river town, but asks for help from residents in the fight.
Pontiac Street Superintendent Chris Brock told the Pontiac Kiwanis Club the city has made an effort to control the insect.
“You’re never going to get rid of them,” Brock said. “We rely on homeowners to take care of their properties, make sure there’s no standing water and keep their yards trimmed and mowed. Those are all things mosquitoes will hang out in and seek harbor. We just need to get the message out that it’s just not the matter of us spraying all the time – there are steps all of us can take to help control the situation.”
Brock told the Pontiac Kiwanis Club that the best ways to avoid mosquito bites are with insect repellant and limiting exposure at sunset.
