NORMAL – The town of Normal is reviving a program that shows citizens the ropes of local government.
Normal Town Manager Mark Peterson tells WJBC’s Sam Wood the “All About Normal” Citizens Academy is an eight-week course that highlights the inner-workings of town governance.
“It’s really designed for everyday citizens who want to know more about local government,” Peterson said. “It’s kind of a deep-dive into how things operate.”
The program is free and open to residents and non-residents, though class size is limited. It will run from Aug. 8 – Oct. 18.
Participants must be at least 17-years-old.
Peterson added that the program will also serve as an opportunity for the Town to identify possible candidates for boards and commissions.
“It’s absolutely a way to spot people that have an interest,” he said. “And a way to cultivate interest in serving your local government.”
Applications are being accepted on the Town’s website until August 7.
