PONTIAC – The Livingston County Public Health Department will be holding Wellness Clinics July 5 and 19 at the office on Torrance Avenue in Pontiac.

These clinics include cholesterol, glucose, liver and kidney checks, and more. Marketing director Linda Rhodes explained the importance of attending these clinics.

“So it’s important that people have annual wellness screenings done, because there are many things that are going on inside our bodies that have no outward appearances,” Rhodes said. “A very good example of that is blood pressure. Until it’s very extreme, there are no symptoms, which is why it’s called the “silent killer.” Also, we don’t know if our cholesterol is too high, because we don’t really have any outward symptoms of that, so to have that checked every year is very important.”

The fee for basic services is $65 with the option of further testing, including thyroid and A1C, and most health insurance plans can be billed.

To make an appointment, call the health department at 815-844-7174, extension 0.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
