NORMAL – Normal Police said they’ve uncovered an active and clandestine marijuana growing operation in Bloomington and have netted two arrests in the case.

Police said the department’s vice crimes unit obtained a search warrant for a single-family home in the 1200 block of Mt. Vernon Dr. and seized numerous items used to grow marijuana, seven marijuana plants, 2,109 grams of the drug, and 510 grams of cannabis wax, which is considered a more potent form of marijuana.

Also, authorities said they seized $2,150 in suspected drug money and a gram of cocaine.

Police on Tuesday arrested Joshua Rosalez, 39, and Owen Pischel, 19, both from Bloomington. They’re each accused of manufacturing or delivering marijuana, and Pischel is also charged with possession of cocaine.

Police said the two men were released on bond.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
