BLOOMINGTON – There’s been a change in leadership at the Bloomington Salvation Army.

Major Gary Felton has been appointed the new Corps Officer. Felton comes to Bloomington from his most recent appointment at the Quad City Corps in Davenport, Iowa.

He will be joined by Lieutenant Eddie Williams who will serve as the Assistant Corps Officer. Williams just graduated from The Salvation Army USA Central Territory College for Officer Training in Chicago.

Captain Paul James and his wife, Captain D.J. James, spent seven years in Bloomington. They have been appointed as the Corps Officers for the Des Plaines Corps. Their last day in the Bloomington Corps will be June 25.

The Salvation Army has also announced it needs more fans to distribute to local families in need. The Salvation Army has given out nearly 150 fans this week, but due to high demand and limited donations, it has only has 60 fans left to give out before the drive ends tomorrow.

The Salvation Army asks anyone in need of a fan to call (309) 829-9476 to see if there are any fans available.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
