MINONK – Minonk’s police chief could be out of work soon because he doesn’t live in the Woodford County city he has served.
The Peoria Journal Star reports Minonk mayor Bill Koos didn’t include John Wherry’s name on a list of position appointments this week, citing that Wherry doesn’t have a full-time residence there.
The paper says the chief maintains a home in Minonk but spends most nights in Pekin with his family – that’s an hour away.
The city has an ordinance requiring the police chief live in Minonk. Wherry is staying on as chief until a new one is named.
