BLOOMINGTON – Local police are raising funds by raising themselves, all to benefit Special Olympics.
The annual Bloomington Police Cop on Top is in progress on the roof of the Dunkin Donuts shop on Oakland Avenue. Sergeant Todd Keil (kyle) has climbed to rooftops for a decade and a half to raise money.
“Fifteen years ago when they proposed this idea, of course I thought it was a little crazy,” Keil told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin and Patti Penn. “You’ve got the stigma of police officers and donut shops, so what better way to get the word out about Special Olympics and the athletes and the programs than to hop on top of a donut shop.”
The cops will be on the Dunkin Donuts roof on Oakland Avenue until 6 o’clock this evening accepting donations and selling merchandise. For a donation of $100, a uniformed officer will deliver donuts, and will also deliver coffee for an additional $50. Call Keil at 309-261-6033 to arrange a delivery.
Normal police conducted their Cop on Top last month, raising $21,250 for Special Olympics.
