Durbin, Duckworth slam Trump rejection of climate change treaty

WASHINGTON – The two Democrats representing Illinois in the U.S. Senate are harshly critical of President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

The state’s senior senator, Dick Durbin, said the President and Republicans have chosen “politics over science and greed over responsibility,” and in doing so, they’re surrendering America’s global leadership.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth said the President apparently does not know what U.S. military leaders understand…that increased famine and drought caused by climate change contributes to political instability worldwide.

Closer to home, Duckworth said climate change has already had devastating effects in Illinois and across the country.

She claims the U.S. economy is left behind while the rest of the world invests trillions of dollars into clean energy jobs and technologies.

The Trump Administration contended the treaty will cost the U.S. 2.7 million jobs by 2025.
