Interstate 74 reopens after police pursuit

CARLOCK – Illinois State Police say they have reopened eastbound Interstate 74 near Mitsubishi Motorway following an incident which led to the death of suspect who was on the run from police.

Police were pursuing a man who was wanted in Peoria County on aggravated battery charges. A Deer Creek police officer spotted the man’s vehicle on the interstate and the pursuit began.

Police said the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. It was the only shot fired during the incident. His name has not been released.

The interstate reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
