Springtime is a colorful one for Humiston Woods, located northwest of Pontiac.
Director Ed Lipinski said now is the prime time to see the blankets of bluebells, but he said that’s not all the woods have to offer in the realm of blossoms and blooms.
“There are so many ephemerals. Right now there are trout lilies are just starting to fade. If you want a good place to look for those, look around the base of trees near the pavilion. Also, the Dutchman’s Breeches, the Spring Beauties, the Toothwart Anenomes, Shooting Stars are just starting to pop out now and they’ll be really good in the next week or so. Every week now, in the next month or so, you’ll be seeing a little change; a couple new flowers coming every week or so,” Lipinski said.
Lipinski was a guest on a recent Community Forum, where he discussed many aspects of what the Woods have to offer. That Podcast is available at wjez.com.
