BLOOMNGTON – The man accused of causing a wreck that closed down a section of Airport Road for almost a day and knocked out power to thousands of people is wanted on a variety of charges in five other states.
McLean County prosecutors say Joshua Brewster, 33, of Washington was out on bond for drunken driving in Woodford County, while Indiana authorities investigate whether Brewster cashed fraudulent paychecks.
If Brewster comes up with $50,000 bail, he’ll have to prove to a judge the bond money did not come from an illegal source. Prosecutors have charged Brewster with two felony DUI charges and misdemeanor child endangerment. Authorities say Brewster, his wife, and three young children suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses tell police Brewster was driving his SUV at least 60-miles-per-hour in a 45-miles-per-hour zone on Airport Road near College Avenue. The vehicle left the road, took down two utility poles and pulled dangerous live electrical wires over the street.
A public defender will represent Brewster, who’s scheduled to appear in court again April 21.
