BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington mayor Tari Renner supports reducing the speed limit on a section of Fox Creek Road.
Citing safety concerns, Renner said the need to lower the speed limit from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour is crucial to keep pedestrians safe.
“Right now it is very unsafe – I was just out there the other day, and especially at night when you have people crossing from the apartment to go to the convenience store, that’s a serious problem. Especially if people are [driving] 40 miles per hour or more,” Renner explained.
Renner said enforcement of a slower speed limit may require extra signs or police presence. The Bloomington City Council will consider lowering the speed limit at its meeting Monday night.
The City Council is also expected to review and perhaps take a final vote on next year’s budget at the meeting.
