PONTIAC – Authorities say a Pontiac man who was found unresponsive between two buildings suffered severe head injuries which contributed to his death.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood released the preliminary findings of an autopsy conducted Tuesday on the body of 33-year-old Steven Mrozek. He was found unresponsive in an alley last Friday night and was flown to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria where he was pronounced brain dead just before midnight Friday.
Harwood said details of what caused Mrozek’s severe injuries are still unclear at this time. He said the results of the autopsy are pending toxicology tests.
Pontiac Police, Illinois State Police and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate.
