BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Police say a sexually violent fugitive who had been on the run from police for more than a week has been captured in Michigan.

Officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force located David Hermosillo, 50, in Wakefield, Mich, on Saturday with assistance from the Iron County (Wisc.) Sheriff’s Department and the Gogebic County (Mich.) Sheriff’s Department. Authorities were planning to extradite Hermosillo to McLean County on Sunday.

Bloomington Police reported on March 9 a McLean County warrant had been issued for Hermosillo after he had cut off his GPS ankle monitor which he was required to wear as part of a conditional release. He had been living on West MacArthur Street in Bloomington.

Police had issued a public alert following his escape, considering him to be armed and dangerous.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
