BLOOMINGTON – The group Stand Up for Social Justice is holding its monthly candlelight vigil Tuesday night at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.
Organizer Linda Unterman said they’re drawing attention to the proposed replacement for the Affordable Care Act. She said she was not surprised by what the Congressional Budget Office announced Monday.
“As soon as they cut the Medicaid mandate we knew that there were many low income people that would be going without insurance,” she said.
The budget office said 24 million more Americans would lose their health insurance by 2026 under the House Republican health care bill. Unterman called the Republican’s plan a “tax cut bill for the rich.”
“I’ve often called it a reverse Robin Hood budget,” said Unterman. “It’s taking from the poor and giving to the rich.”
Unterman added their group is also concerned about some of the hits organizations like Planned Parenthood might take under the proposal.
