Bloomington Fire Department lowers response times

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Fire Department reports calls for service and response times dropped slightly in 2016 compared to 2015.

Chief Brian Mohr said between EMS and fire calls, his department handled 10,814 incidents last year. The total in 2015 was 10,872.

Mohr added their average response time was also down last year.

“If we look at on the 90th percentile, last year (2015) on EMS calls we were just under nine minutes,” said Mohr. “This year we’ve dropped that time to about 8:29.”

Mohr said the department’s goal is to reach any incident within six minutes, which they were able to do about 66 percent of the time.

“When it comes to fire response, we were just slightly higher than that, would have been around 70 (percent),” said Mohr. “If you look at actual structure fires we were around 80 percent.”

Mohr will present the 2016 fire stats to the city council Monday night.
