NORMAL – Unit 5 schools are open Friday, despite the the boil order currently in effect for the Town of Normal.
The district has 15 schools throughout the town. Spokeswoman Dayna Brown explained once they found out about the boil order Friday morning, officials got to work as quick as they could to make sure they had clean water at the schools.
“We contacted a local grocery store and we purchase 14 pallets of water. We purchased 15 cases of hand sanitizer,” said Brown. “We got our staff mobilized to deliver things to the schools.”
Brown added their schools did still have breakfast and lunch service.
“They have steps from the C.D.C. and from the health department that you take when you’re under a boil order how to prepare food, how to clean dishes, etc.,” said Brown. “They’re following those guidelines.”
Brown said by the time they found out about the boil order the district’s buses were already out picking up students, so it would have been difficult to cancel school.
