With the potential for bad weather increasing in the coming week, the Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to check road conditions before traveling.

IDOT’s Getting Around Illinois web site has up-to-date information on whether roads are clear or covered in ice and snow.

“It’s a good idea to check that before you go out, and if it looks like it’s really bad out there we advise you that if you don’t have to travel, it’s not a good idea to travel,” said IDOT spokesman Brian Williamsen.

“We have millions of people who visit the site every year,” Williamsen added. “You can bookmark it and look at it on your computer or mobile device.”

The winter road condition web site is gettingaroundillinois.com.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
