NORMAL – With Rivian Automotive in talks to buy the Mitsubishi Motors Plant in Normal, questions have been raised regarding Rivian leaving their base of operations in Florida.

After an article online suggested that Rivian leaving Florida was “shady”, Communications Director for the Town of Normal Dan Irvin dismissed the article and urged people to give Rivian Automotive a chance.

“As a result of that, I’m willing to say – let’s be the Bloomington-Normal McLean County that I know,” said Irvin. “Let’s welcome this guy to town, and if somebody has a question, ask the question.”

The CEO of Rivian Automotive is set to make an appearance in the next Normal town council meeting. Irvin remained confident that the CEO will lay any concerns regarding the company to rest.

“I don’t know the ins-and-outs, I’m also waiting for Monday to let the man brush this off, as I’m sure he will without any problem,” said Irvin.

With facilities in Detroit and San Francisco, Rivian Automotive is looking to make Bloomington-Normal the home of their third facility.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
