NORMAL – Next month, ISU will hold the 41st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Luncheon in the Bone Student Center.
Every year the Bloomington and Normal Human Relations Commissions seek nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award. The Award recognizes two high school students and two adults in the community for their efforts to promote tolerance and understanding within a diverse community. Nominations for the award are due by 5 PM on Friday, December 9, with the forms being available at the City of Bloomington and Normal websites.
Additionally, the Luncheon will play host to a guest speaker: Monica Pearson. Pearson, who in 1975 became the first minority and the first woman to anchor the news in Atlanta, Georgia, has won 33 local and regional Emmy awards during her time as a journalist. Pearson has been hailed as a pioneer and trailblazer in television news.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from City of Bloomington and Normal Human Relations Commission members, as well as the town halls of the respective cities.
