bertdyerBert Emery Dyer, 90, Fairbury beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was called home to his Lord and Savior at 8:49 am Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.  Bert was loved by all that knew him.  His unconditional love and compassion passed on over his 90 years of life will forever be missed by his friends and family.  Bert’s stories and jokes put a print on all our hearts.  We will miss his wonderful smile.

Bert honorably served his country for 4 years with the Navy during the invasion of France in WWII.  He forever loved and believed in his country.  Following that, he worked 40 years for gas and pipe line, and retired from Kindred Morgan.

It didn’t matter if it was college of professional sports.  He was a sports enthusiast and a good game was a good game.  He loved golf and bowling.

He was born June 14, 1926 to Ephriam and Effie Grable Dyer in Chicago Heights, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Dyer, son David Dyer, grandson Chris (Christina) Dyer, 2 granddaughters, Juellie and Jena Dyer, stepson, Ralph (Bev) High, daughter-in-law, Doris High, step sons, Tony (Leatrice) Spence, Curtis (Teri) Spence, Joe (Carol) Spence, 3 step daughters, Debra Spence, Vicki Burnley, Mary (Tim) Wimp and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his first wife Velma, of 43 years.  His sister, Ruth and brother, Bob.  Grandson, Craig and granddaughter, Becky, stepson Duane and step grandson, Duane.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Fr. Carl LoPresti officiating.  Inurnment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury where full military rites being accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be 9:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday also at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials be given to the Boys and Girls Club, Fairview Haven Retirement Community, SELCAS or the charity of the donor’s choice.

A special thanks to Fairview Haven, to Dr. Kindred for his compassion and concern for Bert while at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center.  Also the entire staff at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center who helped care for Bert.
