Eureka wins state, Central Catholic finishes 4th

NORMAL – Central Catholic was unable to defend its state championship in volleyball by dropping back-to-back matches in the Class 3A finals at Redbird Arena.

After losing a two-set match to Chicago Heights (Marian) on Friday, the Saints fell in the third-place game to Mascoutah 25-21, 26-28, 25-23 in a three-set thriller at Redbird Arena.

CCHS ends the season with a 31-7 mark.

Eureka (35-3) claimed the Class 2A Girls volleyball title with a 25-16, 26-24 win over St. Joseph Ogden in the final at Redbird Arena on Saturday.
