Keeping massages on the up-and-up

By RFD Radio

SPRINGFIELD – A number of people think it’s a relaxing way to spend an hour or so but the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation wants to make sure it’s also legal.

If you get a massage in the state the individual giving it is supposed to be a licensed therapist. It ensures proper training and a fingerprint background check. The effort said Terry Horstman with IDPFR is to cut down on possible criminal activity.

“We have seen instances of unlicensed practices of massage therapy and in some instances it’s been linked to dangerous criminal activity such as human trafficking and prostitution,”  Hosrtman said. “We’ve seen that on a national level.”

Newly issued licenses now contain a QR code so you can check the legitimacy of the license with your smart phone.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
