Robert Wollenschlager
Robert E. Wollenschlager, 87, of Bloomington, passed away with his family by his side on Oct. 16 at 7:28a.m. at his home.
Services for Robert will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Pastor Julia Rademacher officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Home Sweet Home Mission or to the Humane Society of Central Illinois.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born on Feb. 18, 1929 in Bloomington the son of Henry and Anna Lierman Wollenschlager. He married Trudy Brueggeman on Jan. 11, 1975 in Bloomington.
Robert is survived by his wife Trudy, their children: John (Carol Shaffer) Wollenschlager of Waynesville, Anna (Steven Leggett) Wollenschlager of Heyworth and step son: Matthew (Christine) Shultz of Heyworth,
grandchildren: Aaron and Jason Wollenschlager and Sophia Shultz, great
granddaughters: Addison and Kaitlin Wollenschlager and brother: Melvin
(Linda) Wollenschlager of Normal and sister: Elinor Nelson of Gibson City.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son: Howard Boyle and one brother: Gerald Wollenschlager.
Robert was raised on a farm in Downs along with his brothers and sister. He graduated from Downs High School in 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1954-1955.
He was a self-employed carpenter for 50 years. He was a member of the Illinois Rifle Association, NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed watching the Cubs, NASCAR and was a Kevin Harvick fan. He also enjoyed making furniture and fixing lawn mowers.
