PEORIA – The Peoria Chiefs were shutout by the Quad Cities River Bandits 4-0 in the series finale Sunday evening. The loss drops the Chiefs to 24-24 in the second half and 64-54 on the season.
The game was scoreless into the third inning when Quad Cities took the lead. Ryan Helsley, making his first appearance since going on the disabled list in late June, allowed a solo home run to Pat Porter as the visitors went on top 1-0.
Quad Cities scored in the sixth against reliever Harley Holt as Kyle Tucker singled home Stephen Wrenn for a 2-0 lead. They added two more runs in the ninth against Tyler Bray as Randy Cesar singled home Tucker and Dexture McCall.
The Chiefs had runners in scoring position in the first, third, seventh and ninth but failed to score, going 0-for-6 in those situations. Peoria only had two runners on base in the same inning twice and lost two runners on the basepaths.
Helsley (8-2) took the loss allowing one run on two hits over three innings as he struck out three. Holt allowed one run on four hits over four innings as he struck out five. Bray allowed two runs on three hits and a walk as he struck out one in one inning.
