DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Peoria Chiefs finished a nine-game road trip with 10 runs on 18 hits and a 10-4 series-clinching win over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday night. The win moves the Chiefs to 16-17 in the second half and 56-47 on the season heading into a seven-game homestand.

The Chiefs got on the board in the first inning against River Bandits starter Eli Hernandez. Jose Martinez singled with one out and with two down Chris Chinea double to right-center. The relay throw home sailed into the Quad Cities dugout allowing both Martinez and Chinea to score for a 2-0 Chiefs lead.

In the second inning, Bladimil Franco and Josh Swirchak drew consecutive walks with one out. Carlos Torres singled home Franco and Swirchak scored on a groundout by Magneuris Sierra for a 4-0 lead. Martinez singled to right-center but Torres was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

RJ Dennard led off with a home run in the top of the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead. The blast is his fourth of the year and went over the party area in right field and onto the bike path in front of the Mississippi River.

Jose Godoy led off the fifth inning with a single and scored on a triple by Leo Pina as the Chiefs took a 6-0 lead. Dennard singled home Pina to add on his second RBI of the game for a seven-run lead. Zac Person replaced Hernandez in the sixth and the Chiefs added two more runs. Torres doubled to start the inning and he moved to third on a single by Sierra. Martinez gave the Chiefs an 8-0 lead with a single and Chris Chinea’s fielders’ choice scored Sierra for a 9-0 lead.

Peoria’s Derian Gonzalez threw five shutout innings before the River Bandits scored off Nick Frey in the sixth. Dexture McCall’s sacrifice fly with the bases loaded scored Myles Straw and Arturo Michalena came home on a groundout to cut the Chiefs lead to 9-2.

Godoy put the Chiefs on top 10-2 with a solo home run to right field in the eighth, his first of the season. Quad Cities scored the final two runs off Tyler Bray with a RBI single by Stephen Wrenn and a double by Pat Porter.

Gonzalez (5-0) allowed three hits and one walk over five shutout innings while striking out four in the win. Frey allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in two innings. Bray allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over two innings while striking out one.
