LeROY – McLean County Sheriff’s Police are investigating a report of animal neglect after finding five malnourished horses in rural LeRoy.
Sheriff Jon Sandage said when deputies followed up on a tip from a neighbor on Saturday, they saw one of the horses was unable to move and had to be euthanized.
“It appeared the horses were malnourished and possibly neglected,” Sandage said.
The four other horses on the property south of Moraine View State Park were turned over to McLean County Animal Control. Police are pursuing animal neglect charges against the owner.
“(The horses) had some open wounds from possibly not being cared for,” Sandage said.
