In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family to be used for a memorial in Lisa’s name to the Brothers of the Community of St. John. Lisa took pilgrimages with the Brothers to Medjugorje, Lourdes and Rome.
Lisa was born Jan. 26, 1959 in Peoria, the daughter of Harold “Don” and Carol Ann Tunnacliffe Underhill.
She is survived by her parents, Harold “Don” and Carol Underhill of Ottawa; a sister, Linda (Larry) Barra of Ottawa; two brothers, Loren (Sylvia) Underhill of Yorkville and Lance Underhill of Atlanta, GA; two nieces; two nephews; and three great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clara and Jim Tunnacliffe and Anna and Harold Underhill.
Growing up, Lisa loved her dancing and acrobatics. She could do twenty-five back flips across the gym floor, walk on her hands, and complete aerial walk-overs and cartwheels. While a student at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, she was a cheerleader and loved every minute of it.
Graduation came and she dreamed about being an x-ray tech, so off to school again! Between Mennonite Hospital and Brokaw Hospital (later becoming Advocate BroMenn Medical Center), she worked in her chosen field for 35 years. While at Advocate, a new cardiac cath department was opened and Lisa was chosen to work there. She returned to school again and worked in that department until illness forced her into retirement.
Lisa was a member of Historic St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and being active in prayer groups.
In and out of the hospital, we met many of her co-workers. They would all agree that she was a hard worker, loved her job and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Likewise, no one ever said a bad word about Lisa. She was loved by all.
She loved family gatherings and all the little ones. During her illness we would find her going through pictures and telling us how cute they were. “If only I could see them grow up and see what they become or do with their lives.”
Lisa felt like she was suffering to help others who had no one to help them. It takes someone special to feel and believe like Lisa did. And of course, she was very special!
We learned a lot from Lisa and it was an honor and a privilege to have taken care of her through her long illness.
Many thanks to Dr. Gomez at the Cancer Center as well as to his assistant Sarah and the entire staff. They outdid themselves and care so much about their patients. Thanks also to all of the priests for their prayers and visits and to all of Lisa’s friends who helped her throughout this ordeal.
We love you, we miss you and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Mom and Dad, Linda and Larry, Loren and Sylvia, and Lance.
