NORMAL – Illinois State senior outfielder Sean Beesley has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Wichita State’s Cody Tyler was named the MVC Pitcher of the Week.
Beesley, a native of Darien, Illinois, helped the Redbirds to a 3-1 record over the past week with his strong performances. He hit safely in all four games, batting .556 (10-for-18) for the week, with two doubles, four RBIs and three stolen bases.
Beesley had multiple hits in three of the four games, including a 4-for-4 performance in a 10-2 win over Purdue April 26 at Duffy Bass Field. The senior outfielder also played perfect defense as Illinois State’s starting center fielder, going all four games without committing an error. He was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts, boosting his team-leading stolen base total to nine.
Illinois State returns to action this weekend with a three-game series against Bradley at Duffy Bass Field, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. For game times, and links to live video, audio and stats, visit GoRedbirds.com. Fans can also receive live updated by following @RedbirdBaseball on Twitter.
