Former McLean County sheriff’s deputy sentenced to 4 years in prison

BLOOMINGTON – A former McLean County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing over $100,000 from the police union.

Jay Hobson pleaded guilty in October to felony theft charges for stealing the funds between November 2011 and July 2014 to feed his gambling addiction. The missing funds meant the police union missed donations to several charities such as Big Brothers, big Sisters and the Baby Fold.

In a statement prior to sentencing, Hobson said there are no words to describe the pain and remorse he feels.

McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage said he feels no sympathy for Hobson, but he does feel sympathy for his family and the charities affected by this incident.
