BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington Edge have announced Chicago Bears’ Hall of Famer and 1985 Super Bowl XX champion Dan Hampton as honorary captain for the Edge home opener on March 6.
“We are thrilled to have Dan toss up the coin on the new era of Edge Football. Dan represents the class and winning that we intend to create with Edge football going forward,” said Edge President Nargis Khokhar.
“Along with the coin toss, Mr Hampton will attend an Edge United-exclusive meet and greet prior to kickoff. He will be available for a general photo opportunity prior to halftime for all game attendees.”
Nicknamed “Danimal” for his ferocious style of play, Hampton is recognized as one of the game’s most dedicated players and was a key cog in the all-time great 1985 Bears defense. That year, the stingy Chicago defense allowed just 198 points and shut out both opponents in the NFC playoffs. The Bears went on to defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX, allowing just 123 total yards and sacking Patriot quarterbacks seven times.
“I’m excited to be part of the Edge as they kick off their second decade under new ownership,” said Hampton. “It will be an honor to meet the diehard Bears fans of central Illinois.”
