NAPERVILLE – Illinois Wesleyan junior linebacker Sean Garvey was named the Defensive Player of the Week for football in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Football on Monday.
Garvey totaled a game and season-high 18 tackles (six solo, 12 assisted) in a 21-7 win at Augustana on Saturday. Garvey helped lead a Titan defense that allowed just 284 yards of total offense for Augustana. He also added 1.5 tackles for a loss of four yards.
The Illinois Wesleyan team (6-0, 3-0 CCIW) rose in both Division III polls this week. The Titans are No. 15 (up one place) in the Oct. 19 American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll and are No. 19 (up one spot) in the D3football.com poll.
In the D3football.com Top 25, Wheaton (6-0, 3-0) is No. 8 while North Central (4-2, 3-0) moved up two spots to No. 16. Wheaton plays at North Central this Saturday. In the AFCA poll, Wheaton remained in the No. 5 spot, while North Central moved up one spot to No. 21.
