BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington City Council unanimously supported spending $129,220 dollars to stabilize 1,750 feet of shoreline on the north part of Lake Bloomington at Monday night’s meeting.
More proposals to address shoreline erosion at the city’s source of drinking water are in the works. One proposal that will likely come up for council consideration in the next fiscal year will address erosion in the streams that flow into Lake Evergreen.
“It’s still being developed at this point. We generally know where it’s at. We’re finalizing the links and limits in that tributary where it should be,” Water Department Director Bob Yehl said. “The grant’s not finalized and not obtained at this point.”
Yehl says another proposal to stabilize part of the shoreline for Lake Bloomington and Lake Evergreen will probably come up for consideration later this fall.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is contributing $20,000 to the project approved Monday night.
