BROADWELL – A tow truck driver was killed on Interstate 55 last night when he was struck by a semi while responding to a disabled vehicle on the side of the road.

Illinois State Police say Jamal Horvath, 22, of Rochester was standing next to the driver’s side of his marked tow truck with its flashing lights activated along the right shoulder of the interstate when he was hit by a passing semi at about 9:10 p.m. Sunday about eight miles south of Lincoln. Horvath was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver, Michael Marsh, 64, is from Benton, Arkansas. He was not hurt and was ticketed for failing to yield to a stationary authorized emergency vehicle and improper lane usage. State Police say the investigation continues.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
