YWCA McLean County to hold voter registrations

BLOOMINGTON – A local group wants to get eligible voters registered, especially those who think they can’t.

YWCA McLean County’s Director of Communications and Development Christy Germanis noted that convicted felons can vote.

“People who are coming out of incarceration or are on probation or parole often times think they’re no able to vote,” Germanis said. “They actually are eligible to vote. They just need to re-register.”

Germanis added homeless people can vote too. The YWCA is taking part in National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday by holding a registration drive at the West Bloomington Revitalization Project offices, 807 W. Washington St. from noon to 3 p.m. and at the YWCA, 1201 N. Hershey Road from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

“Partnering organizations coordinate hundreds of National Voter Registration Day day events through the nation to help drive attention and get voters registered before the mid-term elections,” Germanis said.

The groups are promoting the day through social media by using #CelebrateNVRD.
