BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Wesleyan football team amassed 532 yards of total offense and the defense allowed just 200 in a 49-7 win over Simpson College on Saturday at Tucci Stadium.
The Titans close out their non-conference schedule with a 3-0 record while Simpson fell to 1-1.
Sophomore quarterback Jack Warner completed 16 of 28 passes for 256 yards and two touchowns while running for 27 yards on eight carries with a rushing TD. Andrew Javorka made three catches for 73 yards and senior Artie Checchin made a pair of catches, both for touchdowns, with 90 receiving yards.
The Titans were led on the ground by junior Austin Harrell’s 56 yards on seven carries while junior Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore had 46 rushing yards and a TD. Senior Anfernee Roberts had 25 rushing yards and threw a halfback pass for a 36-yard touchdown to Checchin.
Illinois Wesleyan led 28-0 at halftime and Simpson found the end zone in the third period on a 33-yard pass from Caleb Frye to Devin Norman.
Linebacker Sean Garvey paced IWU with nine total tackles while Will James had six and Jamal Jackson, linebacker Luke Roth and Tyler Fahey all had five tackles each.
Titan senior placekicker Michael Kelley connected on seven extra-point boots and now has 120 in his career, becoming IWU’s all-time leader in the category, passing the old mark of 116 by Todd Rozboril (1994-97).
