BLOOMINGTON – A local breast cancer survivor is paying it forward.
Melissa Schrader is an honorary chairperson for the fifth annual Bloomington-Normal Komen Race for the Cure this Saturday.
PODCAST: Listen to Scott and Colleen’s interview with Schrader on WJBC.
“As I went through and progressed through this disease and went through my surgeries and was recuperating at home, I really know I wanted to give back.,” Schrader said. “I’ve always been a participant with this race and now taking it to the next level.”
Schrader was diagnosed in January of 2014 through a routine mammogram. She thanked family, friends and her doctors for helping her get through it.
“Every day is a victory,” Schrader exclaimed.
The race begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at State Farm Corporate South in Bloomington.
