SPRINGFIELD – The gas station could be a “no whining zone” these days, if the September AAA Fuel Gauge Report is any indication.

The national average is $2.42 per gallon, and the state average is $2.65 a gallon. Chicago stations average $3.19, and Downstate ranges from $2.23 in Bloomington-Normal to $2.56 in Rockford and on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities.

The state’s average is down 20 cents just since last week, since Beth Mosher, spokeswoman for AAA Chicago. “We hear frequently that gas prices rise much quicker than they fall,” she says. “This time, however, we think that prices are falling at a pretty rapid pace. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
