NORMAL – A record number of freshman are starting school at Illinois State University.
Nearly 20,800 students are attending class. This is the second year in a row that Illinois State University has had a record breaking freshman class.
The numbers are up one percent over last semester. The fall 2015 freshman class has 3,632 students, making it the University’s largest freshman class in the past 26 years. The new students at Illinois State have a strong academic background.
A university press release says the new students have an average high school grade point average of three-point-four.
The new class is also more diverse. There is an eight percent increase in Hispanic students and a six percent increase in African-American students.
