Edge moving to Champions Indoor Football League

BLOOMINGTON – After spending one season with X-League Indoor Football, Bloomington’s indoor football team is making a change.

The Bloomington Edge announced Wednesday it will be moving to the Champions Indoor Football (CIF) League for the 2016 season.

The league was created in 2014 when the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) and Lone Star Football League (LSFL) merged. Edge Owner Omar Khokhar said the CIF brings a higher level of professionalism and links to both the NFL and AFL.

“We’re excited to be part of that caliber,” said Khokhar. “We’ve always fielded strong teams here in Bloomington with our players and our coaching staff. I believe that this league will resonate better with our fans and will provide a better platform for our players.”

Khokhar added this league will have more stability.

“Several of the teams have been around for a long time. They’ve been pillars of the indoor football business,” said Khokhar. “The Omaha Beef is where Fred Jackson of the Buffalo Bills got his start.”

Khokhar does not expect any changes to the coaching staff.

“Between now and the season things can always change,” said Khokhar. “But as of right now our coaching staff, which has performed admirably over the last two or three seasons, will remain intact.”

Head coach John Johnson has been with the Edge since 2008.

Khokhar explained the CIF will be much more familiar to fans as compared to the X-League.

“It doesn’t have some of the intricacies and nuances of scoring that the previous league did,” Khokhar said.

The 2016 scheduled is expected to be released in October.
