Mellon touts endorsement from teachers

BLOOMINGTON – The Illinois Teachers Union is endorsing Quincy Democrat Rob Mellon for the 18th district congressional seat.

“It’s a really big deal,” says Mellon. “I had to walk through the same process even though I’m a teacher. I spoke to other teachers and they thought it should be a slam dunk. I still went through the entire process, I filled out their questionnaire, met at their meetings, and they unanimously selected me.”

Mellon is facing off against Republican Darin Lahood who received the endorsement of the farm bureau. Mellon says he would be ready to take on farm issues on day one.

“I think I would completely be ready on day one,” said Lahood. “I didn’t grow up a farmer, but neither did Mr. Lahood.”

The election is September 10th.
