Man arrested after shooting death in Long Point

LONG POINT – A man from Streator has been arrested after a standoff with police Sunday afternoon in Livingston County.

Illinois State Police say David Stayton, 58, is in LaSalle County Jail pending an arraignment Tuesday. Police did not say what Stayton is charged with but they did say the arrest stems from a “domestic situation” in rural Long Point around 4 p.m. Sunday. Samuel Murphy, 73, of Long Point was shot and killed during that incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
