BLOOMINGTON – The Democratic candidate for Illinois’ 18th Congressional District said his opponent has backed away from a televised debate.
Rob Mellon told WJBC’s Terry James that he had an agreement with Republican Darin LaHood to a televised debate in multiple markets through the NBC affiliate in Peoria.
“Which would have really given the voters a good idea of where each of us stand on issues and put us next to each other so you can see a clear distinction between us, which is something the voters deserve,” Mellon said.
But Mellon said LaHood backed out last week. Mellon told WJBC’s Terry James he’s going to limit himself to spending $150,000 in an effort to run a campaign without the influence of money from big donors.
The election is Sept. 10.
