SPRINGFIELD – Good news for state workers expecting to be paid. Not so good for people who think the state needs a budget to do that.
The latest state appellate court ruling orders Comptroller Leslie Munger to pay all state workers. This is against the backdrop of lawmakers and the governor refusing to agree on a balanced budget.
“The ruling from the appellate court made clear that right now there is only one court that has an order that is dictating whether or not I can pay employees,” said Munger. “That is the St. Clair County court that is mandating that I pay all state employees. Until I hear otherwise, we are going to continue to run payroll for all state employees.”
The Illinois Supreme Court has declined the attorney general’s request for a direct appeal.
