BLOOMINGTON – A former Bloomington Police officer has had his trial delayed after rejecting a plea deal this Monday in McLean County Court.
The Illinois Supreme Court is reviewing a pre-trial motion made by the judge.
Brenton Van Hoveln was fired last May after 19 years with the police department for allegedly writing 11 fake traffic tickets between January and April of 2014. A deal offered by the state’s attorney’s office would have dropped four felony counts and instead charged Van Hoveln with a class A misdemeanor.
Van Hoveln is charged three counts of forgery and one count of official misconduct.
