BLOOMINGTON – State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) said the fight over Illinois’ budget is bad, but it’s not the worst he’s seen during this time in Springfield.
Brady told WJBC’s Dan Swaney it was worse when former Gov. Pat Quinn was in office.
“Democrats controlled the whole thing and we left Springfield with budgets that were so out of balance we left the people of Illinois with a boat load of debt,” said Brady. “That’s what’s worse; when you’re completely irresponsible.”

Brady believed voters should be “encouraged” because there’s serious debate going on about fixing Illinois’ finances. He added he does not believe there will be enough “pressure” on lawmakers to pass a budget until after the end of the fiscal year on July 1.
“There’s not a tremendous amount of pressure even there because the courts have said that certain expenditures have to continue whether you’ve got a budget or not,” said Brady. “But, again, we’re talking about some pretty serious alterations to what the Democrats have been doing for the last 12 years.”
Brady said Gov. Bruce Rauner is doing the right thing by explaining what services will be cut if there is no budget by July 1.
