BLOOMINGTON – Some local police officers spent all day at the donut shop for a good cause on Wednesday.
Bloomington police sergeant Todd Keil and officer Bill Wright raised $10,212 on top on the Dunkin’ Donuts at 2306 E. Oakland Ave. on Wednesday. Wright told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin it’s to raise money for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
“We have a lot of uniformed (officers) that go to the (Special Olympics) winter games and the summer games and we help hand out medals to the athletes,” Wright said. “it’s something that just continues to grow.”
This is the 13th year Bloomington Police participated in ‘Cop On Top.’ Normal Police raised $7,400 in their second annual Cop On Top fundraiser at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 1603 N. Main St.
Wright said BPD has a friendly rivalry with Normal Police.
“We share ideas and go back and forth with them,” Wright said. “It’s a good group there also.”
Sister station B-104 broadcast live from the Dunkin’ Donuts in Bloomington. The Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games are in Bloomington-Normal this weekend.
