NORMAL – Illinois State University will be showing off its new University Galleries in Uptown Normal at a new fundraiser this weekend.
Bobbi Hynes, president of Friends of the Arts, told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin, ‘Gala at the Gallery’ will include a live and silent auction for artwork, show tickets and more this Saturday.
“One of the things that’s really unique about this, we have ‘experience’ auctions,” Hynes said. “If you’ve always wanted to direct ‘Sleigh Ride’ at the holiday concert at ISU, you to can have a baton and direct ‘Sleigh Ride’ this year.”
The event begins at 6 p.m. and the auction will get underway at 7. Students, faculty and community members will be providing live entertainment too.
Friends of the Arts has held an event in past springs called ‘Postcard Art’ at its previous gallery.
“Now that we moved to our new gallery, we decided we wanted to expand that and make it an even bigger event,” added Hynes.
The group provides scholarships for Fine Arts students at ISU. Organizers hope to raise $25,000. FOA provides about $50,000 in grants to students each year.
Ticket information is available by calling the College of Fine Arts box office at (309) 438-2535 or by going to finearts.illinoisstate.edu.
